I have woken up early, very early, and I have a moment of peace here. We have entered into our second year in Stratford-upon-Avon and there is still a great deal of work/ play to be done here. However, it seems that I have so much going on (for which everyone in town seems to know about), I have found that I am fresh out of stuff to talk about. I spend a great deal of time every day thinking about what I will do with Measure for Measure when we start casting/ rehearsing/ designing/ everything that show... everybody knows about it already, and are excited for it too. They'll have nothing to do with it for at least six more months when we actually start the process.
I spend a lot of time as well working on ideas for Designing Shakespeare, the website I am working on with Dr. Christie Carson. At the moment, I'm pricing out technical equipment/ (wo)man-hours to see what the budget should be for the first year. I have a good idea of what she wants and how I can help. Yeah, talking about the development of a website is only fun with people who are involved and should be added to the list of things that people never want to hear about how they are made... "laws, sausages, and websites." If only so the people sitting across from you at dinner don't want to gouge out their own eyeballs with the salad fork to escape having to talk about it.
I spend a lot of time reading. Everyone in this town seems to know what my topic is, and discussing their topic stresses them out as they are a lot closer to finishing than I. So, the question, "What are you reading?" either produces a slew of expletives about one's adviser (not what I asked but okay) or something generic like, "what am I NOT reading! ... hehe" and then a quick change of topic to vacation plans or best places to get drunk.
Along with my thesis, Designing Shakespeare, and the RSC Open Stages project... I am running a monthly swing dance night here in town, I'm leaving my job at Starbucks, I should be starting as the Technical Director for the Shakespeare Institute soon but have no idea what that title means (or pays), and have begun the process of getting a driver's license here in the UK. I would like to go to London more but have no idea what to see there that I've not already seen, I still need to see Titus and All's Well at the RSC, and want to sit down with several different people to begin either cutting down the script for Measure or beginning to write the music for it. I would like to finish Way of Kings and begin the Mistborn Series, Book 2, but who has the time? I have work in an hour and half, from which I will leave afterwards to tech the show Pericles at the Institute for the Ketterer's Men performance this Wednesday thru Saturday. So, when exactly during this post do you think my coffee really kicked in?
I still think I'm boring as hell to have at parties.
O! it is excellent
To have a giant's strength, but it is tyrannous
To use it like a giant. (Measure for Measure II.ii)
